Age days

In Japan, we have various "Age days," which is the day for celebration for the people who are in some specific ages. For example, "Shichigosan" is for the kids turning three, five, and seven years old, "Seijinshiki" is for the young people reaching twenty, and "Kanreki" is for the people turning sixty are the most popular.
The biggest and the most popular in these three is "Seijinshiki," which is also called "Coming of age day." In January, we have big ceremonies for the twenty-year-old young people in every local area. Sometimes it's hold in Disneyland for the people living around it!
By the way, do you know why it is twenty? In Japan, the people age of twenty is considered as the new members of the society, so we can drink, smoke, and have the right to vote. Therefore, "twenty" is the most important age for us.
Actually, because I turned twenty last September, I also joined this ceremony in my area in this January. I wore special Kimono called "Furisode." Most of girls wore the Kimono which is more beautiful and expensive than usual Kimono, and whose sleeves are so longer that they can reach down to the ground. Some people buy it and others rent it because it's expensive if we buy it. It depends on the quality or some factor, so we can also buy it for less than $5,000.00. As for me, I put on my mom's. Actually, the older Kimono is, the more expensive it was when we bought it. When she bought it, it cost, say, more than $15,000.00!! On the other hands, boys wear different type of Kimono called "Hakama" or a Jacket and a tie.
Although the party itself is not so fun, the most exciting event for us on that day is meeting and talking with lots of sometime classmates, not the party.lol. We also tend to held a class reunion after that. Anyway, "Coming of age day" is the one of the most important and traditional events for every Japanese.
Isn't it cute?? lol

  2. Well, there are nice embroidery and design on the sleeves actually. The longer the sleeves are, the bigger and more gorgeous these embroidery and design is.
According to the Website of the famous Kimono company, this Kimono, called "Furisode," is for single females because we can stop fascinating boys by the marvelous sleeves.lol
So, it tired me to hold the sleeve not to touch ground.
