Some of our classmates have posted about their traditional costumes. Now it is my turn to do so ^o^. As in the pictures, there are many styles and many colors of Thai traditional costumes. Usually, Thai costumes are made of Thai silk, and Thai people wear costumes with many accessories. Thai people wear Thai costumes on special day, and they wear Thai costumes when they perform Thai dancing. Usually, people that live in a rural area wear Thai costume. On the other hand, people in the city usually wear Western clothes. The different styles of the costume depend on when and where do they wear them. Northern, Southern, Middle, Nort Eastern, and Western people wear Thai costumes differently. Also, Thai costumes on the wedding day or other special day, including Thai dancing are totally different. There are many types of Thai dancing which means there are different kinds of Thai costumes for Thai dancing as well. Moreover, Thai male costumes are also different than Thai female costume -_-". If I have to describe all Thai costumes that we have, it would take me forever !!! However, I just give you guys an idea of what Thai costumes are like. I used to wear Thai costume when I was in Thai school. I wore them to perform many Thai dances in school^o^ !!! Therefore, I am very proud of Thai traditional costumes !!!
You wrote that you would wear the costume for a performance in school. Then I got a couple of questions for you! Did your school have a traditional dance class? If so, is it common in Thailand? Also, what grade or age do you guys usually start to learn how to dance?

Yes, every Thai student have to take Thai traditional dance class from elementary school to college. It is very common in Thailand that all Thai people know how to do Thai dancing.
ReplyDeleteFor Cherry, when we wear Thai traditional costumes, we usually put different kind of crowns, depend on the types of dancing. Is it heavy, it depends. The last picture, that is pretty heavy. We wear school uniforms differently. Usually, guys wear a white button-shirt with dark blue short in high school. Thai girls usually wear a white short or long sleeves shirt with a dark blue ribbon in the middle. They wear dark a blue long skirt that cover to their knees. It is kind of hard to explain in word. I need to show you some pictures next time.
