Drinking manner in South Korea

This is the most famous drink in South Korea. It is SOJU. It tastes like vodka, but you will find yourself dead in the morning if you drink it more than two or three bottles.

In Korea, it is common to have some drink with friends, co-workers, and elders of the family.

Since Koreans have been hugely influenced by confucianism, we have certain drinking manners which considered rude when the one does not follow them.

If you pour the drink of an older person, you should support your right hand with your left hand. The same has to be done when an older person is pouring your glass.

Also, you should not pour your own drink. It is customary for others to pour your drink for you and for you to pour for them.

If you ever going to have a drink with Korean people, you probably will hear them shouting "one shot!" This is a Korean version of saying "bottom up," which means to drink a whole glass of alcohol compeletely before putting it back on the table. But, do not panic if you cannot drink alcohol very well. They will not force you to drink more than you can.

This is an interesting extra information that I found on the web.
If you have reached a point of intoxication where your body has decided that its stomach’s contents are excess baggage that need to be ejected, then rest assured that your Korean friends will help you by hitting your back while you are "taking out" your stuff. I personally do not think this practice helps me when I am down on my knees, bringing back out what had once been on a plate in front of me, but most Koreans believe it is assistance.

  1. I'm surprise about this drink that if we drink more than two or three bottles we can died. It's a mistery that what kind of alcohol is this if has something bad of strong that people can die if they drink a lot of them. I wounder where they get the ingredients to make the beer. Also, when they are going to drink they have to finish it in one time.

  2. I wasn't trying to say that you would actually 'die.' I meant that it is a strong drink that you would be suffering for a strong headache in the morning if you drink soju too much.
