NEW YEARS!!!

In Tecate, Mexico during New Years Eve, many people are accustomed to wearing red underwear because it is believe to bring good luck for the New Year. Another superstitious believe is that at the strike of noon people are suppose to eat 12 grapes, and for each grape that they eat they must ask for a wish. Also, for those who want to travel during the upcoming year they have to go to the streets at 12:00PM with a suitcase on their hands. As well, some of the people that I know from Tecate, sweep their houses before 12:00PM so, when it is 12:00 PM they throw out all the trash outside of their houses, in order to bring all the good energy and get rid of all the bad energy.

  1. I like your culture, Laura! Actually in Japan, we always clean our house thoroughly before the new year's coming. So, I sometimes finish cleaning in the evening... You have grapes!? That's nice! We have Japanese noodle called "soba" as the last dinner of the year.

  2. I live realy near from Tecate and iv'e never heard about about eating the 12 grapes nither about cleaning the house. Maybe we dont practice the traditon about cleaning the house because during new year all the family gets together in my granmothers house, and we sure make a big mess during new year. Nice traditions!
